I am working on a couple outside projects. The biggest one is the curriculum guide for Scott Sigler’s book “The Rookie“. I am hoping to be done at the end of the month.

It was interesting to hear the innocent bystanders. They were quite confused by the event.

Young and old participated! What will the next mission be? Keep your eyes open, you never know where we will turn up…

However, my sister-in-law sent me something that really reminded me where my priorities are and need to be. Here is the email:

“When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the two beers. A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into
the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous ‘yes.’ The professor then produced two beers from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand.

The students laughed. ‘Now,’ said the professor as the laughter subsided, ‘I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.
The golf balls are the important things—your family, your children, your
health, your friends and your favorite passions—and if Everything
else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.
The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car. The sand is everything else—the small stuff.
‘If you put the sand into the jar first,’ he continued, ‘there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.

The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Spend time with your children. Spend time with your parents. Visit with grandparents. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first—the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.

(Now the most important question) One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the beer represented. The professor smiled and said, ‘I’m glad you asked.’ The beer just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of beers with a friend. Thus why EVFN (East Valley Friday Nights) was created!

Life isn’t about letting the storm pass…..It’s about learning how to dance in the rain!

Its Mine!

NJ is a senior this year! It is amazing how fast the time has flown. I can remember him cutting his first teeth, learning to crawl, and so many more firsts.

Last weekend I witnessed one of the lasts. NJ played in his last high school hockey game. He has played since he was 6 years old. It was a great year of hockey. He has said on many occasions this was the best set of coaches he has had. Hockey has been our lives for so many years that I am not sure what we are going to do.

With his last hockey game, came his first lacrosse game. Yes, he decided to take up a new sport during his senior year. He is really enjoying it. I am learning the ins-and-outs of the sport.

I really think his playing lacrosse made the last hockey game easier for me. I have really enjoyed watching him grow as a goalie and as a person.

I look forward to more!

I worked hard last month to hit a weight goal. The goal was 10 lbs. I didn’t quite make the goal by the 28th of February. I did lose 6 by the 28th and this week I lost another 2. I am setting another goal of 8 lbs to hit by the end of April. I will keep you informed of my progress!

Wish me luck…

The Fam at New Year’s Eve

So this is us!

We had a New Year’s Eve party this year. NJ had his friends downstairs in the basement and we had the adults upstairs. I think it was a nice evening for everyone!

So now with my New Year’s resolution/goal. I want to be healthier. I know this is the same resolution as most everyone else in the world. I am taking steps to make it happen. I am working out at lunch, watching my portions, and have started a meal replacement system for two of the three meals.

I started the whole thing actually prior to the holiday season. I did not gain any weight during Christmas but I lose any either. Now that I am serious about the process I have lost 4 pounds.

I have cut out drinking at all until the end of February. This typically doesn’t bother me ‘cuz I don’t cave to peer pressure, however, #evfn (East Valley Friday Nights) makes it rather tempting. So far I have resisted the urge. It is not tempting because others are drinking but because I really enjoy a good full flavored beer.

My goal is to lose another 5 pounds by the end of next month. If I keep doing what I am currently doing and not backslide I should be good. I will keep you updated.

Wish me luck…

One of my favorites in the Valley is Ignite Phoenix. The idea behind Ignite is if you had 5 minutes and 20 slides what would you say. Two prior meetings have been held. Here are a couple of examples of prior presentations. The newest event is coming up on February 25 at the Tempe Center for the Arts. Submissions are now open and waiting for you to submit your talk. 7 Things About Me That Have Nothing To Do With Social Media

Ok seems I am now being tagged! I have been tagged for similar memes in the last week so I am going to do one out of the two.

Debbie Walker tagged me first so here it goes. The challenge is to list 7 things about me.

1. I love to play, watch, or photograph hockey games. It doesn’t matter what age or level of play.
2. I was a travel agent for many, many years before I taught.
3. I enjoy playing all kinds of sports even though I am not good at them!
4. I am taller than my mother by an inch.
5. I love animals and children. I think my small size helps both feel at home with me.
6. The two makeup items I can’t leave the house with out is mascara and a touch of eye liner! Yeah, I know it is a bit vain!
7. Evo is my best friend! I enjoy spending time with him even as we approach our 20 year anniversary.

I’m supposed to post the rules, so here they are:

1. Link your original tagger (Debbie Walker) and list these rules in your post.
2. Share seven facts about yourself in the post.
3. Tag seven people at the end of your post by leaving their names and the links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they’ve been tagged.

Here are the lucky taggies: Andrea Gideon,
Philippa Ballantine, Marshall Poole, Heather S Howard, Marcia Kress, Kelly Loo-Lew, and last but not least Evo Terra.

Can’t wait for these 7 individuals to tell all about themselves!

I despise the forwards that some people think it is ok to pass along. Most of them say that you must respond or something terrible will happen to you in the next 24 hrs. Generally, I delete without reading most things that come to my inbox with a forward (just FYI you know who you are that send these to me)!

I don’t have a lot of extra time on my hands these days. I have gone back to work, multiple projects I work on, and a long commute that take up a good chunk of my time. On top of that NJ is a senior this year!

Paul Fisher tagged me earlier this week for this Flickr Photo Meme. I am participating for two reasons! One Paul Fisher tagged me and he is such a super nice guy! Two it has to do with my photos!

Andy from the Andycast tagged Dani Cutler from the Truth Seekers podcast and Dani tagged Paul Fisher. The meme is you have to go to your 6th page of flickr photos, and blog about the 6th picture. Here’s Andy’s post. Here’s Dani’s post from her personal blog. Here is Paul’s post from his personal blog.

This picture was taken of my very good friend Debbie Walker. I have been friends with her for several years now. But it has really been within the last 6 - 9 months that we have actually really gotten to know each other. She is someone who I feel comfortable saying what is really on my mind and I know she will not be offended.

This particular picture of Debbie was taken during PodCamp AZ 2008. She was part of the organization team that put the entire conference together. Without her, our meetings would have gone on and on and on and on and did I mention on. She kept everyone on track with what needed to be handled! In addition, she took on the task of making sure the programs ready to be printed. This is not a small task since almost daily I would call to let her know that I had changes to the speaker’s lineup!

Debbie keeps me sane in an insane world! Anyone would be lucky to know her, let alone be included in her circle as a friend!

Love ya girl!

The rules are as follows:
1. Go to Flickr (or other photo sharing site)
2. Go to your 6th page of photos
3. Find your 6th photo on that page
4. Post it on your blog
5. Tag 6 people

I am recovering from PodCamp AZ 2008. The conference went off smashingly. We had great speakers, sponsors, facilities, volunteers, and attendees. Many great connections were made during the two days as well as much information gained.

PodCamp AZ 2009 is already in the planning phase. Go ahead and sign up to be included for next year!

See ya there!
